Leadership Change

In June 2024 Second Half Founder Gordon Prior submitted his resignation as Executive Director to the SH Board. The Board then unanimously approved Fred “Skip” Thistle, Chapter Leader at St. Giles, to replace Gordon as Executive Director, effective immediately.  Gordon will remain a member of the SH Board as Founder. The Board thanked Gordon for his 22 years of service and his faithfulness to the Second Half mission.

St. Giles Small Group Leader Walt Andes reported on the backgrounds of both men in the current Second Half Newsletter.

Second Half is growing and thriving. There are now five Chapters in central Virginia with 165 active members. Each chapter meets twice each month for 90 minutes and men study together a variety of books by well-known Christian authors on relevant topics. Second Half is non-denominational and welcomes men who are interested to come and join.  For information on meeting times and locations, please go to the “Chapters” Tab.

A Brief Narrative About the New Logo

When someone asks,

“So what does the soccer field represent?”

That is a great opportunity to explain the back story.

Second Half is a Men’s Ministry formed 22 years ago, and the first book that Second Half ever studied was called Halftime by Bob Buford.  In this book, Buford used the analogy that the game of life is much like an athletic event.  As Buford says, “Halftime….is a time of revitalization….for catching a new vision for living the second half, the half where life can be lived at its most rewarding.”

The soccer field simply represents the game of life – we are in the second half of our lives.  The ball simply shows movement toward the goal – Second Half’s goal is that we “Seek to follow God’s Plan for the Rest of our Lives”, as we approach the ultimate goal – “Eternity.”
